The Harlem Studio began when Judith Pond Kudlow and Andrea J Smith created a space for established artists to work together. It was a way of having both a studio for themselves to work in as well as a place to teach and share knowledge.
The building is a few steps from Pleasant Avenue in the growing artists community of historic Spanish Harlem. The studio's working environment is a 1,800 square foot loft on the top of an old cabinetmaker's building. It is well lit by large north-facing windows, and is a few blocks from the 116th street subway stop on the Lexington line. There is also ample free parking on the surrounding streets.
